Heavy Rebel & The Garage

Processed with VSCOcam with hb1 preset

Hey folks, just wanted to give you the lowdown on the shows I have coming up within the next week. First up, on Friday, July 3, I will perform a solo acoustic set at Winston-Salem’s brand new (and air-conditioned) Mast General Store at 7pm to help kick off Heavy Rebel Weekender.

On Saturday, July 11, I’ll still be all by myself at The Garage with my pals Amigo. They’re one of my fave combos, so spread the word and come out early. The night kicks off at 9 pm. Hope to see you in either spot – or both!

Summer Dates

Hey folks, I know it’s been a while. I have a few dates coming up this summer – both solo and with the full band – and we’d love to see you out sometime, standing under that giant fan at The Garage or in Charlotte when we’re playing with our pal Don Dixon.

Friday, July 3: Mast General Store, Winston-Salem as part of Heavy Rebel Weekender (We’ll have more details about this one within the next week or so)

Saturday, July 11: The Garage, Winston-Salem (with Amigo)

Friday, August 28: The Garage, Winston-Salem (with Don Dixon)

Sunday, August 30: The Evening Muse, Charlotte (with Don Dixon and The Jump Rabbits)

And there are more shows coming!

Thank You, Phuzz Phest!

Our Saturday night could not have been better – or more rocking. Thanks to Phuzz Phest for putting us on the bill this year and to everyone who came out to The Garage to support us.

Stay tuned for more shows this spring, both solo and with the Yes Men. See you again soon!

Record Store Day

This Saturday, April 18, is Record Store Day and I’ll be playing a short solo set at 3 p.m. at Earshot Records. So grab a few of your friends, head to Earshot, listen to some music and buy some records. It’ll make you feel good. And it really is a great day to get out and support our local record stores, whether you’re at Earshot in the afternoon or if you’re lining up outside Underdog before it even opens.

And don’t forget, the Yes Men and I will be part of Phuzz Phest on Saturday night. We’ll play at 9:30 p.m. at The Garage.

JDF and the Yes Men at Phuzz Phest

The gentleman rocker emeritus of Winston-Salem, Jeffrey Dean Foster released The Arrow, the critically acclaimed follow-up to 2005’s Million Star Hotel, last year. I’m a huge fan, and both albums hold a prized place in my collection. The fleeting quality of his recorded music is only enhanced in a live setting, with each song walking the knife’s edge between exquisite craft and careless accident.

Thank you to Jordan Green and Triad City Beat for including me in this Phuzz Phest preview (or Phorecast, if you’re into their Ph-prefixes). Our set is on Saturday, April 18, right in the middle of the weekend-long festival. The Yes Men – Brooks Carter, John Pfiffner and Snuzz – and I will be playing at The Garage at 9:30 p.m., in a prime slot right between Celestogramme and The Dead Tongues.

For more information, single-night tickets or weekend wristbands and a full fest–er, phestival schedule, check out PhuzzPhest.com. We hope to see you all on Saturday night!

John Prine and Scuppernong Books

John Prine On April 10, I’ll be playing a few John Prine songs while longtime music writer Eddie Huffman reads a chapter or two from his newly released biography of Prine, In Spite of Himself.

The evening starts at 7 p.m. at Scuppernong Books in downtown Greensboro. Even if my guitar and I hadn’t been invited, I’d probably be there listening to Eddie read anyway.

CLT and Chuck Prophet

I’ll be opening for Chuck Prophet & The Mission Express at The Double Door in Charlotte on April 1. (So much information in that sentence.) Tickets will be available at the door or by clicking HERE. The doors open at 8, the show starts at 9.

I’ll be doing this one solo, so come out and keep me company.

Thanks, Raleigh

Thanks to everyone who came out to The Pour House last night and thanks again to our friends in Tonk for inviting us to Raleigh to play. The Yes Men (Brooks Carter, John Pfiffner and Snuzz) and I would also like to thank the NC State Wolfpack for putting that crowd in an insanely good mood before we even walked onstage.

We’re looking forward to this Saturday’s show at The Pour House Music Hall (224 S. Blount Street, Raleigh, NC) with our friends Tonk. Tickets are available at the door and the show starts at 9 p.m. (Don’t worry, we’ll be DVR-ing those second round NCAA games too.)

Phuzz Phest Preview

We’re looking forward to being part of this year’s Phuzz Phest lineup. It’s the fifth anniversary of the festival and our first time on the bill. Our show – featuring the full band – will be at 9:30 p.m., Saturday, April 18 at The Garage. Single night passes and three-day wristbands are available online, at Underdog Records and Reanimator in Winston-Salem and at CFBG in Greensboro.

Our friend Eddie Garcia and festival founder Phillip Pledger have put together a Phuzz Phest preview for WFDD, talking about the sixty-plus local and national acts that’ll be scattered throughout the city that weekend. We hope to see you on that Saturday night in April, if not before.
